SS: What made you go vegan and why?

HF: My dear friend Melissa Schwarz has been talking to me about it for years, until finally I had the courage to watch one of those video's of animals being abused by being crammed by the thousands into filthy, windowless sheds and confined to wire cages, gestation crates, barren dirt lots, and other cruel mass -production systems.

It broke my heart! That was it for me! I just couldn't eat dead flesh anymore . That would mean I would be supporting this kind of cruelty and that would mean that I'm not standing up to what I believe in, which is 'Be the change you want to see in others.'

I now know that I am living in Awareness and therefore living a healthier lifestyle which leads to being a better person in this lifetime that I was given. If you care about the environment and you treat your body with respect, you will notice a big shift in your life, which is living in consciousness!

This is the key to a much easier journey.
SS: Has it been difficult for you? If yes what was difficult and did it get easier?

HF: Being raised in European countries like Italy and German and loving the mediterianean
kitchen so much, my addiction to cheese was the hardest to overcome. This makes sense now that I know there is a substance similar to morphine in it (casomorphine)! I started learning about different spices, flavoring and vegan protein sources that I never tried before. My interest in cooking increased drastically and now my dishes are turning into 'tasty art'. I'm trilled to have a new hobby and perhaps a new career to think about and play around with . And, I'm saving a bunch of money! A lot of my friends think that it is expensive being a Vegan . I just laugh and say: 'It is actually a lot cheaper especially if you try home cooking for a change'.

Becoming a Vegan takes a shift in thinking and I made that shift and my life is so much better.
I have a easier time getting out of bed or handling a late night. I can exercise a lot harder and longer, My breathing has gotten a lot better and therefore my vocals have become stronger. My stage-presents is brighter and my confidence has grown. It's a win - win situation and I will never go back.

SS: What are some animal rights related things that you participate in?

HF: I do what feels right in the moments. If an animal or the environment is in need or danger, I try to be there in whatever way is possible. When asked, I talk to my 'meat- eating' friends and family about the health and cruelty factors behind consuming meat. I support the Vegan local farmers on farmers market, teach my 'students' everything they need to know about animal right and how to save the environment through recycling and living in awareness. I try to participate in demonstrations and boycotts as I believe they are key to bringing awareness to the people.

SS: What are your favorite animal rights organizations?

HF: I've been supporting Peta and Greenpeace for a while since they are also well organized and known throughout the world but, I believe any organization is great as long as they are making a differences.

SS: What would you say to somebody who is considering going vegan?

HF: You will feel and look younger.
You will loose weight while eating a lot more then you think.
You will discover that meals from a Vegan kitchen are so much more interesting, yummy and healthy then your former eating plan.
You will not be wasting resources and destroying our environment.
You will be supporting a greener, cruelty-free and a species-friendly world.

SS: Do you have any memories that stand out in your mind about someone saving an animal? Or relating to an animal in a unique way?

HF: My dad and step mom had a little dog named Duffy who died. Days after he died my step-mom heard him jump up the stairs just as he always did when he was alive. He greeted her and laid down beside her and she also lied down and closed her eyes briefly. When she opened her eyes Duffy was gone .

She feels that he came to her to say good bye. Because of this my step-mom believes animals definitely have souls.
